Cattle Performance and Yardage Changes
July 12, 2010
We have made many improvements at our facility, from demolishing the old flush barns and replacing them with two bedded barns and adding more concrete outside pens. The changes have made drastic improvements on our total performance at the Farmers Coop Society’s Feedlot, as a result improving our customers’ investment.
With changes come new opportunities for us to learn and improve on the best ways to manage these pens, and with great ideas from our staff and management team we have mastered the challenges we face in the barns. We are cleaning pens out every week, reducing our bedding needs by half, and it has kept our pens drier while making very comfortable pen conditions. We have also increased our animal square footage by 25 percent. All of these changes go back to you, the customer, in an effort to continue to improve your bottom line.
We are continuing to look at ways to improve your bottom line. Even with the obvious advantages, we are going to decrease yardage in the barns, during the summer months. From April 1 through November 1, we will be charging $.24 a head per day, for inside and outside yards. We believe this change will help you during these volatile markets.
We would also like to remind you of our financing program that many of you are already taking advantage of and have seen firsthand, the benefits to having all the financial needs taken care of by us. We maintain competitive interest rates which currently are currently at a variable rate of 5.5%. Accompanying our financial program we have an excellent hedging program where FCS handles the margining throughout the feeding period.
The bottom line is we are a cooperative which allows members to earn patronage on business you do with us, all going back to your bottom line. You won’t find another feedlot that pays you to feed with them and are still competitive in the market place. We look forward to talking to you more about the exciting opportunities we have for you at the Farmers Coop Society Feedlot.
Sincerely,
Garret Englin
