Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS) is bringing our growers additional access to profitable opportunities through Truterra’s carbon program, open now through June 30. This partnership is offered through the sustainability business of Land O’Lakes, Inc., one of America’s largest farmer-owned cooperatives. The 2022 Truterra carbon program builds on the results generated by Truterra’s 2021 program, which resulted in more than $4 million in payments to participating farmers, who sequestered over 200,000 metric tons of carbon.
The Truterra carbon program and carbon market access program provide farmers an additional opportunity to get rewarded for their stewardship and were designed to make the process as streamlined for farmers as possible. There are no administrative costs, such as soil testing and verification costs, to participate. Truterra opened an initial offering for farmers in December 2021 and we are looking to drive additional supply of carbon through a second enrollment opportunity to meet buyer demand. After successful verification, farmers can earn up to $25 per ton - upfront for new carbon stored in soils. Truterra offers farmers greater earning potential by paying based on results – actual carbon stored – rather than a set payment per acre.
“Partnering with TruTerra allows us to give our producers the ability to protect their farm’s future with sustainability practices but also gives them a real-time return on investment. It’s is a win-win. FCS is committed to leading our producers with innovation and Truterra is going to be a key player in the future of agriculture.” said John McDaniel, CEO of Farmers Cooperative Society.
The Truterra carbon program and carbon market access program offered through Farmers Coops Society is one of the largest carbon credit programs in the US and represents unparalleled speed to market from program enrollment to farmer payments. The programs focus on generating the industry’s most attractive farmer return per acre and providing the most farmer-favorable contract opportunity in the crowded carbon marketplace.
