FCS Announces the 2020 Scholarship Recipients
Farmers Coop Society wants to ensure a strong future for the agriculture industry by supporting the future generations. This year, Farmers Coop Society awarded $1000 scholarships to eight high school seniors. Congratulations to our 2020 Scholarship recipients:
Ashley Beitelspacher
Ashley Beitelspacher is the daughter of Michael and Rebecca Beitelspacher from LeMars, IA. Ashley graduated from Unity Christian High School where she was involved in 4-H, FFA, AWANA, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, and Beef Team. Ashley grew up on her family farm and helps her family raise and show cattle. She is planning on attending South Dakota State University and majoring in Ag Business. She looks forward to working in agriculture and continuing to innovate the industry.
Michaela Gray
Michaela Gray is the daughter of Scott and Anne Gray from Sioux Center, IA. Michaela’s father is a farmer and her mother is a tax accountant. She graduated from Unity Christian High School and was active in dance, band, and youth group. Michaela graduated from Unity Christian High School and is planning on attending Dordt University this fall. Michaela has been surrounded by agriculture her entire life and was very active in 4-H when she was younger. Her vision for the future of agriculture is increased efficiency for the producers so they can have higher yields.
Torrey Heynen
Torrey is the son of Veryl and Kandace Heynen from Orange City, IA. Torrey graduated from Trinity Christian High School and has been involved in baseball and basketball. When Torrey is not in school, he’s working for his brother by power washing producers hog barns and doing miscellaneous farm work. Torrey plans on attending Northwestern this fall. His future vision of agriculture revolves around technology advancement and integrating that into farm safety. He sees an opportunity to produce food more safely for the local farmers.
Ashilyn Hulstein
Ashilyn Hulstein is the daughter of Scott and Jamie Hulstein of Melvin, IA. She grew up on her family’s farm and enjoys helping her family continue carrying on that tradition. Ashilyn graduated from Sibley-Ocheyedan High School and is planning on attending South Dakota State University this fall. She intends to major in Conservation with a concentration in Soils and Wildlife. Ashilyn was involved in a variety of activities in high school including 4-H, government, National Honor Society, Student Leadership Team, and Osceola County Council for 4-H. Ashilyn sees more conservation efforts for the future of agriculture. She knows no till and cover crops can not only help the farmer but also help the farm for future generations.
Sarah Rosgaard
Sarah Rosgaard is the daughter of Joel and Jean Rosgaard and lives on her family’s farm near Rock Valley, IA. She graduated from Rock Valley High School and was involved in FFA, Student Council, Class Office, and National Honor Society. Sarah is planning on attending Dordt University this fall and majoring in Animal Science and Ag Business. Her career goals are to become a swine specialist at a local cooperative after she graduates college and is excited about the opportunity for technology to advance the swine industry.
Kaleb Schutte
Kaleb Schutte is the son of Neil and Shelly Schutte and grew up on his family farm near Sibley, IA. Kaleb graduated from Sibley-Ochedean High School and was involved in National Honor Society, FFA, 4-H, and shooting sports. He plans to attend Minnesota West this fall to major in Ag Production and has plans to return to the family farm. While in high school, Kaleb did livestock chores and field work and sees the vital integration of technology in agriculture’s future, realizing it will be essential and will potentially replace general labor at some point.
Brayden Smith
Brayden Smith is the son of Mark and Lesli Smith and lives on his family’s farm near George, IA. Braden graduated from George-Little Rock High School and plans to attend South Dakota State University this fall to major in Agronomy. Braden was very involved in high school and participated in baseball, FFA, TAG, and football, and he received the Honor Roll Citizenship Award. He is working toward a job in Agronomy so that he can continue working in the agriculture field he loves.
Mitchel Wolf
Mitchel Wolf is the son of Ryan and Tabby Wolf and lives on this family farm near Ritter, IA. Mitchel graduated from Sheldon Community School and was involved in basketball, football, golf, Student Leadership Team, National Honor Society, FFA, and TAG. Mitchel will be attending South Dakota State University and majoring in Exercise Science. Mitchel envisions autonomous tractors, improved seed technology, and increased yield for agriculture’s future. He thinks farmers will be able to keep up with the demand of a growing population and growing demand by implementing technology advancements.
